One of the oldest temples in the state of Johor is situated in the city of Johor Bahru. The temple, the first and only glass temple in Malaysia, was adorned with an assortment of almost 300,000 pieces of colorful glass and was inducted into the Malaysian Book of Records in 2010.
Architectural Design

The temple’s exterior may appear to be a standard Hindu temple at first, but once you enter, you’ll be treated to a captivating light festival atmosphere! Almost every surface of the temple, including the domes, pillars, doorways, walls, and ceilings, is decorated with different sets of colorful glass, which is by far its outstanding feature.
300,000 Mukhi Rudraksha are also used to ornament the temple’s walls; each bead is meticulously engraved with a prayer chant. The Athma Lingam sanctuary, located at the middle of the temple, is where Hindu worshipers offer prayers to Lord Shiva’s lotus. The temple’s ceilings were also adorned with sets of chandeliers, completing what turned out to be a delicate and exquisite architectural masterpiece throughout the entire building.
Sculptures and Murals

A fundamental principle of Hinduism, the cycle of life, is also magically manifested in the temple’s design. A portion of a wall near the ceiling was covered by ten gold-finished sculptures, each of which represented a distinct period of life, including birth, youth, adulthood, old age, and death.
A group of ten white marble statues, each about 47 inches tall, depicting Jesus Christ and Mother Teresa are placed next to other Hindu deities as a sign of respect and tolerance for various faiths. Two sizable panels on the ceiling are adorned with two mural paintings that are meant to convey a message of racial and social harmony in Malaysia, a country rich in diversity.
A Segment of History

One of the main priests had the idea to build a glass temple after he happened upon a magnificent blaze of light that depicted a diamond-like illustration. Then he was told that the light was actually a combination of the light and the artwork made of glass at the entrance to a temple.
